We have named this national, philanthropic effort, “A Community Dialogue on Thoughts, Behaviors, and Consequences.” We seek the support of community leaders across the country and other patrons to help identify communities, organizations and neighborhood groups interested in hosting one of these special two-hour dialogues. My new book, "The Conscious Citizen: The Tough Questions the Average American Should Be Asking" serves as the cornerstone for these unique, powerful and thoughtful dialogues.
This unique publication is available wherever quality books are sold. The formats include Paperback, Hardcover (With color interior), Kindle eBook, and Audible Audiobook. The Audiobook is narrated by Pete Ferrand.
You can listen to the Audible Sample by playing this short video.
You will be entertained, enlightened, enriched and energized by the wisdom and frankness of Paul and Paulette, as an archetypal couple, participating on a national opinion poll panel.
Believing that they are Average Americans, Paul and Paulette are committed to knowledgeably responding to a special set of survey questions as Conscious Citizens. The set of survey questions were initially generated by a non-partisan Think Tank to collect American’s views on a list of top problems in the country in 2024.
The Survey Questions specifically touch upon 16 topic areas, which include Inflation, Healthcare, Drug Addiction, Violent Crime, Federal Budget Deficits, Climate Change, Racism, Terrorism, Unemployment and others.
However, the “Stars of the Show” are the 114 Tough Questions that Paul and Paulette unknowingly generate, while consciously suppressing the subconscious thoughts that naturally control most of our lives.
This unique set of Tough and necessary questions is inherently intertwined with each of the 16 topic areas. The author believes that authentic and non-partisan answers to these questions can help provide the attention, and the deeper understanding of the broader issues needed to drive a more realistic perspective on what’s best for the country, and national unity, as a whole.
The Conscious Citizen is a book you will read, never forget, and readily share with family, friends and neighbors.
A Journey In Citizenship and The Tough Questions is a uniquely designed Discussion Guide and companion to the Master Publication, The Conscious Citizen: The Tough Questions The Average American Should Be Asking.
As a Discussion Guide, this second publication is intended to be used by those who are reading or have read the master book, with the goal of benefiting further from the insights and lessons gained on how to more effectively contribute as Conscious Citizens within America's Democratic Republic. The benefits are best gained by first reading "The Tough Questions The Average American Should Be Asking."
Then, you should read and make notes in the Discussion Guide of any changes in your previous perspective on "how big a problem" is each of the sixteen topic areas presented following your experience of the reading of The Conscious Citizen. Another approach would be to perform this exercise as a part of a neighborhood gathering or a small, facilitated group during a sponsored training session.
In either approach, you should remember that the objective is a review of the Tough Questions and a discussion of the critical thinking process used by the protagonists, Paul and Paulette, in The Conscious Citizen, as they arrived at their survey responses.
The objective is not to seek any form of consensus, if you are in a group setting. It's all about understanding the thought process. The sixteen topic areas presented in the Discussion Guide were first determined by the Pew Research Center, a well-respected and national Think Tank, as America's major "problems" in July 2024, a few months before the U.S. Presidential Election.
By spending some quality time to consciously understand, ponder, and possibly respond to each of the 114 Tough Questions set forth in The Conscious Citizen.
I share with you that my optimism about this approach of American-style citizenship development springs from the historical vision so well said by Margaret Mead, the influential American cultural anthropologist when she said: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
Even though The Conscious Citizen: The Tough Questions The Average American Should Be Asking is very much a self-help book, its goal is not to simply help solve or improve a personal problem.
Its goal is to help to improve the collective lives and performance of the most essential aspect of a properly functioning and democratic nation. Its Citizens and their Citizenship.
"In The Conscious Citizen, the author may have reached an even higher level of thought-provoking dialogue than in his other 13 published works. This book is an outstanding, well-organized discussion with researched published data. The topics are some of the most prominent in this election year with all its politically meandering discourse and media blitzes. The author's technique to use average citizens to discuss and evaluate current issues with supporting objective data is unique. Paul and Paulette, a married couple, are the tour guides through these discussions. They guide the reader through topics a person may need to become more aware and sensitive when making choices for the 2024 election and elections beyond. It is an objective trip. It does not tell the reader "what to do." The author encourages average citizens to ask questions of themselves and even more importantly about the systems that control their everyday life. The sixteen questions posed in the book are but a selected few. Additional questions should not be difficult especially when the answers can affect everyday lives. "The Conscious Citizen" demonstrates how the Average American can do that." ---Amazon.com
"I have read most, if not all, of Earl Cobb's books. "The Conscious Citizen," his latest book is certainly one of his best. The approach he takes is thoughtful, extremely well researched, and encourages the reader to come up with their own answers to the key problems in the US today. Cobb uses 16 questions and the imaginary discussions of a husband/wife team to get at the reasons for four pillars of concern in the US today, (1) why is there a decline in civility; (2) Why does there seem to be a lack of unity; (3) How subconscious beliefs may be driving the country towards desiring authoritarian leadership, and (4) why growing economic inequality seems to not be taken as seriously as it should. Cobb builds his case like a lawyer in a courtroom, or more aptly, like the electrical engineer he is building a design for a complex system that will prove robust." ---Amazon.com
"I purchased the book this week, and received it yesterday. When I opened it my plan was just to flip through it and spend more time with it later. Two hours later I was in the middle of the dialogue between the two characters, Paul and Paulette, and their discussion on violent crime in the country today. What a wonderful way to be entertained and to learn so much about some of the most important issues facing us as Americans today. I highly recommend this unique and well-written book." --- Barnes and Noble.com
